BAND 6 SENIOR STAFF NURSE

We are looking for dynamic, flexible and highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a team and are a seeking a new challenge. We require professional and committed team members capable of delivering high quality, patient-focused care within a busy progressive and varied department. 

Main duties of the job

The multi-specialty unit has 12 main operating theatres and 2 day surgery theatres performing emergency and elective procedures. Major Laparoscopic Surgery & Robotic Surgery with the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit – an internationally recognised Centre of Excellence created for the teaching of innovative laparoscopic surgical techniques.

Specialties here include: Colorectal, Urology, Gynae Oncology, Hepatobiliary, and Upper GI, Breast Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Major Head and Neck and ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics and CEPOD.

We are the Regional referral centre for Upper GI work, including emergency Oesophagogastric cases.

Day Surgery is a purpose built unit covering many specialties including ENT, Maxillo Facial, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, Pain and dedicated Paediatric lists.

As a Registered Nurse/ODP, you should have theatre experience in a wide range of specialties; proven experience of leading a team and be prepared to support the department during the evenings and at weekends. There is also an on call commitment with this post.

To provide a high standard of individualised patient care reflecting individual competencies and education.  To ensure that care is evidence based and patient centred.  On a regular basis to take charge of a designated area of theatre.  To assist in the management and organisation of the nursing service in the clinical area including the teaching and management of more junior staff or those in training

  • RGN / City & Guilds 752 / NVQ Level III in Operating Department Practice
  • RGN / City & Guilds 752 / NVQ Level III in Operating Department Practice
  • ENB 998 or NVQ D32 or 33
Desirable criteria
  • Management Course
  • ENB 176

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience at Band 5 or above within acute hospital setting
  • Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical credibility / competence
  • Evidence of advanced skills in practice i.e. iv additives, cannulation and venepuncture
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management.
  • Evidence of research based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical audit
  • Evidence in changing practice and project management
