OB PURPOSE
The Cancer Services MDT Coordinator will ensure that cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings are coordinated efficiently and effectively, patient pathways are actively tracked to meet cancer waiting times standards, support the production of evidence for national audits.
Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY
This position is part of the team specifically supporting cancer services. The main responsibilities are:
- To track patients’ care pathways to ensure cancer waiting times targets are met
- To develop, support and coordinate MDT meetings
- Collect data for COSD and national audit submissions as required
A significant level of liaison with different departments is required and the successful candidate needs to have highly developed diplomatic and influencing skills. Attention to detail and excellent communication and organisational skills are key components to the position. Knowledge of medical terminology especially relating to cancer is essential along with an ability to receive and process sensitive and complex patient information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cancer Services for a dynamic and proactive individual with excellent interpersonal and operational skills to ensure that Cancer MDT Meetings are coordinated efficiently and effectively.
You will be required to track patients on their cancer pathway in line with national Cancer Waiting Times targets.
Working with Patient Pathway trackers and Service Managers, you will have overall accountability for reporting breaches, analysing breach reasons and escalating capacity and delays to the Cancer Performance Manager as appropriate.
You will need an ability to multi-task and manage priorities within a frequently changing environment, managing your own workload but also being able to work as part of a team when required. |

Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or can demonstrate an equivalent level of work experience.
- Excellent IT skills – word, email, excel, PowerPoint.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the NHS with an understanding of NHS processes and patient pathways
- Experience of communicating with, influencing and relating to different professional groups and managers at all levels of seniority
- Experience of “process review” to maximise efficiency.
- Experience of organising meetings, including minute taking
- Experience of developing processes for the collection and collation of information
- Experience of data quality and confidentiality issues
- Experience of working with in a busy environment with multiple departments
- Experience of working with complex databases
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of medical terminology, especially relating to cancer.
- Experience of working within the NHS
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
