Radiotherapy Operational Manager – Brachytherapy

Band 8a

Job overview

Are you an experienced NHS operational manager looking for a new challenge?  Are you a Team Lead Radiographer looking to take that next step in your career?  If this is you, then why not look to become part of our excellent clinical team at St Luke’s Cancer Centre?

St Luke’s Cancer Centre is focused on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centred care. We strive to continuously evolve to reflect the technical advances within Radiotherapy

We are currently replacing two of our Varian TrueBeams with a Varian ETHOS and a Varian Halcyon at our satellite centre.  These units will be the first in the NHS for in-bore SGRT and we are scheduled to be the first Centre to implement Hypersight later this year. Surface guided radiotherapy system installation will further improve the accuracy of treatment and present the opportunity for tattoo-less radiotherapy.  Once installed, our patients will benefit from access to two ETHOS units, one Halcyon and four TrueBeams across our two radiotherapy centres.

Our Brachytherapy service currently sees about 130 cervix and endometrium patients and 25 HDR prostate patients a year. We also treat oesophagus, rectal cancer and are in the process of introducing skin and biliary HDR within the next financial year. We are also one of the five centres in the UK that has a Papillon machine to treat early rectal cancer.

Interviews will be taking place on the 2nd August 2024

Main duties of the job

Our main site and brachytherapy service is based at the Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford and our satellite centre is based at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.  Guildford gives easy access to the beautiful North & South Downs Way, is an hour from the coast and has great transport links to the surrounding counties of Berkshire, Hampshire and Sussex.   The city offers cultural diversity, is home to the University of Surrey and it is great place to reside and explore.

Key to this role will be operationally managing the brachytherapy service. Expert leadership and professionalism will be required to drive and support the radiotherapy service in St Luke’s Cancer Centre. You will work closely with the Lead Radiographers, clinicians, theatre staff and other key departments to ensure that we are providing effective patient pathways and patient-centred care. The complex needs of our interesting and appreciative patient mix mean that no two days are ever the same and offer plenty of learning opportunities for you and our radiographers

As a MacMillan adopted department, you will have access to a wide range of support for both patients and opportunities for your own continuous professional development.

We have on-going departmental, NCRN and commercial clinical trial activity with many trials currently open to recruitment and further ones in development.

Some routine working at our satellite site at East Surrey Hospital will be required to cover the general operational management rota.

Working for our organisation

Royal Surrey is a compassionate and collaborative acute and community Trust. Recognising that our 5000 colleagues are our greatest strength, we offer a comprehensive health and wellbeing program along with a commitment to developing and advancing your career. Our diverse and welcoming Royal Surrey family will ensure you that you feel valued from your initial interview through your entire tenure.

We are clinically led and provide joined up care by bridging the gap between hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care. Our main acute hospital site is in Guildford with community hospital sites at Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh. We provide adult community health services in homes across Guildford and Waverley.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have given us an overall rating of Outstanding.

Royal Surrey has a strong reputation and history to build on. We are proud of our achievements and we are investing in our colleagues through our commitment to supporting professional development as well as investing more than £45 million in our physical environment and new equipment in the next few years. There has never been a better time to join us.

Although it isn't the Trusts normal practice, adverts may close early, so you are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible.
