Job overview

A part-time position is available in General OPD (Outpatients Department). We offer flexible shift patterns including 08:00 – 13:00, 13:30 – 18:30 and 08:00 – 18:30, ideal for part time staff.  We deliver clinics and outpatient services across a variety of specialities.  Some of our clinics include: Respiratory medicine, ENT, Cardiology, Breast and General surgery.

You must be a flexible, self-motivated nurse who enjoys a challenge and delivering compassionate care to the highest clinical standards along with a customer focus to improve the patient experience. You will be proactive and above all, an excellent communicator. Understanding the importance of patient care you must have the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients, recognising the specific needs of patients and relatives.

You will need to pass both literacy and numeracy tests, in order to be eligible for the interview.

Main duties of the job

You will have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary department and the ability to support more junior staff is seen as an essential part of this role.   You will be involved in inspiring a diverse, well-established team through coaching and team meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To act as lead and mentor for staff, supporting them in their development. To run clinics effectively ensuring a productive outpatient environment.

The role involves the management of quality, clinical care, and advocate for the patient experience, effective management of resources and appropriate deployment of Junior staff.

The post holder will assist in delivering a service which meets target standards and promotes a creative and innovative approach to on-going service development, including the mentoring and management of junior staff, and driving forward Achieving Excellence within the department.

To provide a high standard of individualised patient care to all patients attending the Main Outpatient Services, at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. To ensure that care is evidence based and patient centered. The post holder will assist in the management and organisation of the nursing service within the Outpatient areas including the teaching and management of more junior staff or those in training.

The post holder will be a resource nurse for the area and will act as a link in promoting an integrated specialist service. The post holder will develop elements of nurse led practice within Outpatients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English A-C or equivalent.
  • Hold a nursing accreditation (NMC PIN).
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Experience of providing effective supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience of working effectively as a nurse within a busy environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of specialist outpatient area.
  • Knowledge and experience of using hospital systems such as Cerner.
  • Experience of working within an outpatient setting.
