Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Neurologist based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Foundation Trust (Guildford, Surrey).
The Royal Surrey County Hospital is a district general hospital, with an integral cancer centre (St. Luke’s Cancer Centre). It serves a population of 320,000 for emergency and general services, and 1.2 million people for cancer services. Currently, the Neurology department consists of five consultant neurologists, a consultant neurophysiologist, and associated support personnel.
Main duties of the job
1. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a comprehensive acute and outpatient Neurology Service.
2. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
3. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
4. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
5. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
6. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the professional supervision, training and management of junior medical staff.
7. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.
8. In conjunction with the Associate Operations Director/Specialty Manager, Consultant and Senior Colleagues, to take an active role in the management of the Business Unit.
9. In conjunction with the Operations Director/Specialty Manager, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are seeking an ambitious individual to help to develop / lead neurological services within the general hospital and the cancer centre, and to further develop the academic partnership with the adjacent University of Surrey. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the generic neurology service, and to develop a relevant subspecialty interest.

- Full registration with the GMC
- MRCP or FRCP or equivalent qualification
Experience

- Wide general experience in general Neurology
- Wide experience of General Internal Medicine including multidisciplinary team working

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
