Job overview

We invite applications for a full-time vacancy as Consultant Vascular Surgeon.  This is full-time, comprising 11 Programmed Activities (PAs).  The post reflects the needs of the service following the continuing expansion of Frimley Health Trust. 

The post holders will join the existing Vascular Surgical Team in proving a full general and specialised vascular service, including elective and emergency surgery for the vascular network across Surrey, NE Hampshire and E Berkshire.

The job description for this post has been approved by the Royal College of Surgeons.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide a general, broad base of vascular and endo-vascular service.  It is expected that the post holder will be an active member of the local and network MDTs and will be expected to work at any of the spoke hospitals when required, where they will receive honorary contracts.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCS or equivalent registration
  • Full GMC registration
  • Possession of CTT or within six months of receipt at the date of interview
  • Completion of recognised College speciality training in sub-specialty
  • Entry on Specialist Register
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research activity or higher degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A wide grounding during training of all aspects of emergency & elective surgery within the speciality of vascular surgery
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates & operative skills to trainee specialists
  • Understand principles and participated in audit activity
  • Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
  • Undertaken Research with published papers in refereed journals
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literate - confident in using MS Office, email and internet

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Have a commitment to working within Trust policies and procedures as guided by the Clinical Director.
  • Have a commitment to Continuing Medical Education / Continuing Professional Development.
  • Have a commitment to management priorities of the department of surgery
