Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated clinical pharmacists to join our medicines information team, who is keen to learn and able to work in a team and independently. You will need to have previous NHS hospital pharmacy experience and have rotated through different specialities including medicines, surgery, and medicines information.

The post-holder will work closely with colleagues in the medicines information team as well as being integrated into the clinical ward pharmacy service. Outside of medicines information, you will be rotating through different clinical specialities to further develop your clinical skills and will work closely with the multidisciplinary team. 

This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in developing their clinical knowledge and reasoning, you will be exposed to clinical enquiries with varying complexities originated from healthcare professionals and patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the medicines information team providing an enquiry-answering service to clinicians and patients in the region. The post is based at Frimley Park Hospital but may entail occasional travel to other sites within the Trust or to other organisations we currently deliver services to. 

The award-winning medicines information department at Frimley Park Hospital provides service to several acute, mental health and community trusts across the region with plans to extend services further to support the Frimley Health and Care Integrated Care System. You will work alongside other Specialist Medicines Information Pharmacists and be supported by the Lead Medicines Information Pharmacist. You will also be involved in training and supervising junior staffs from across the region for their medicines information rotation.

Outside of medicines information, you will spend time working as a ward pharmacist rotating through different clinical specialties such as endocrinology, vascular and care of elderly. You will also support the technician-led dispensary occasionally.

You will be enrolled to the accredited National Medicines Information Training Course hosted by the UKMI and will be given opportunities to attend UKMI conferences. Continuing professional development is encouraged in the department, where funding for courses such as Independent Prescribing and Designated Supervisors for Trainee Pharmacists is available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will be highly motivated with excellent communication skills, possessing the ability to organise and plan their work. Importantly they will have a passion for realising the potential that Medicines Information services have in supporting patients and healthcare professionals to improve the care and quality of life of people across our region. You must be a team player and able to work with a variety of healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will be supported through any future training needs including the possibility of undertaking an Independent Prescribing Qualification.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the enquiry answering service for HCPS from secondary and primary care as well as from patients via our dedicated patient helpline
  • Helping to provide training in Medicines Information for Rotational Band 6 Pharmacists, Pre-Registration Pharmacists and Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians from across the region.
  • Contributing to the review and development of the service.
  • Providing a clinical pharmacy service to patients in specified therapeutic areas.
  • The post holder will act as a role model for rotational pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy technician
  • On-call commitments depending on previous experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Pharmacy degree
  • Registered with GPhC
  • Experience in Medicines Information
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • National MI trianing course completed
  • Management training
