Calling band 6 Mental Health Nurses!

Would you like to become a Clinical Team Leader at The Meadows West Park Hospital, an inpatient ward for Older People (Epsom)

Based at Epsom, The Meadows is a single storey building in the grounds of the Noble Park housing development in the former West Park Hospital site in Epsom.

This is a 24/7 hospital service with 24 beds available for the care of people aged over 65 years who have dementia or organic mental ill-health (i.e. decreased function due to medical or physical disease, rather than a psychiatric illness).

There are three single sex wards, each with eight beds:

One ward is for people with mental ill-health (functional, e.g bipolar or depression)
Two wards are for people with dementia.
We are a multidisciplinary team including occupational therapists and psychology support.

We are looking for a confident nurse to help lead our team in the clinical aspects of delivering excellent care in order to maintain our high standards.

Responsibilities of the role:

Ensure the service operates in a safe, effective & efficient way as part of the whole system of mental health services.

Foster a culture that encourages and enables individuals to have an active role in identifying, planning and meeting their individual needs.

Promoting improvement in health and well-being including mental health.

Provide leadership to the junior staff through supervision and actively participate in the smooth running of the ward over a 24 hour period.

The post holder will:

  1. Be competent as appropriate to the requirements of the role.
  2. Be a Clinical Team Leader with evidence of detailed professional development and clinical knowledge.
  3. Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where appropriate and will have some responsibility for team performance and service developments/ improvements.
  4. Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
  5. Work with the Ward Manager undertaking delegated tasks in team management.
  6. Act as a role model for colleagues and others in relation to professional and personal conduct and practice.
  7. Ensure all policies and procedures relevant to the role are implemented and complied with.
  8. Be expected to participate fully in quality assurance initiatives.
  9. Ensure that regard is given to dignity, choice, self-esteem and well-being of people accessing services and carers.

Experience

  • 6 months to 1 year post qualification experience working with people within a mental health setting i.e. acute inpatient ward (preferable older adults acute inpatient ward)
  • Someone who is passionate and committed and who enjoys leading staff and supporting people who use our services
  • Experience working within MDT

  • Experience working within Acute inpatient
  • Leadership training

Qualifications

  • Membership of a professional body (NMC)
  • A clinical qualification to degree level or equivalent - RMN
