Job overview

This post is based within the Surrey Heartlands Medicines Resource Unit (MRU).   The MRU is the clinical co-ordination hub for Pharmacy & Medicines Management.  It provides the mechanisms to support the safe and cost-effective management of medicines across all partner organisations in Surrey Heartlands ICB.  

This post will lead strategic redesign and delivery of diabetes medicines related services across Surrey Heartlands.  You will work across complex patient pathways in collaboration with system stakeholders across primary, secondary, community and social care.

Main duties of the job

Develop and implement the Surrey Heartlands Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisations strategic delivery plan in relation to diabetes.

Support the diabetes whole care systems pathway work, providing expert pharmaceutical advice and guidance to staff working at all levels within Surrey Heartlands.

Promote rational, cost-effective prescribing within Surrey Heartlands.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent in Pharmacy
  • Current Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post Graduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma/MSc qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of sustained personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification as Independent Prescriber

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of quality improvement methods to support implementation of policy or new services
  • A well-developed understanding of current health and social care issues and policy
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of regional / national / international specialist interest groups relevant to field of practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate and current clinical experience in diabetes
  • Experience of effective partnership working with internal and external stakeholder
  • Proven experience of working at a strategic level with senior clinicians, other healthcare professionals and managers
  • Proven medicines related policy development and implementation
  • Experience of developing and maintaining a safety culture
Desirable criteria
  • Proven experience of working at a strategic level across the wider health community
  • Experience of delivering significant change across organisational boundaries
  • Experience of commissioning or equivalent e.g. medicines procurement
