Urology Prostate Biopsy Nurse Specialist

Job overview

The Urology department is inviting applications from two ambitious  nurses with some experience in the field of Urology who will undertake prostate biopsies for patients with suspected prostate cancer in order to provide a faster diagnosis. 

A full educational/training programme will be offered by the clinical team with further support from the wider urology team of nurses and doctors. 

You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team that provide Prostate Cancer diagnostic and treatment services. You will be influencing the care that they receive attending clinics and have a vital role in developing Nurse led prostate providing histology results following  biopsies.

You must have the skills to conduct sensitive conversations with patients and their relatives.

You will provide clinical leadership, influencing others to provide the highest levels of safe effective care and positive patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Provide an expert specialised service in Urology that positively impacts on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical care.

Provide clinical support, expert care and clinical leadership to support patients undergoing clinical investigations, diagnostic tests in relation to prostate biopsies

Conduct nurse led biopsies with appropriate education and training.

Participate in local MDT 

Support faster diagnosis and deliver histology results in nurse led clinics

Provide improved care and support for patients under the two week rule pathway

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Initiate and undertake preliminary and diagnostic investigations such as bloods and imaging leading to prostate biopsies as appropriate.

Demonstrate competence in clinical diagnostic and examination skills for management of patients referred with suspected prostate cancer.

Development of clinical triage to support faster diagnosis of prostate cancer and ongoing treatment.

Work in collaboration with CNS's from relevant specialities and Consultant team including tertiary centre.

Participate in local Urology MDT
