This is an exciting time to join Frimley Health Foundation Trust as a bank Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN). We have invested in a mental health-led role to improve mental health outcomes and in supporting the development of a broader strategy to enhance the care of patients with mental health needs. We have sourced funding for 2 Band 7 RMN who will alongside the mental health lead and be based at Frimley and Wexham Park respectively to support staff deliver better patient experience and enhance joint working between medical and mental health pathways.
As part of this expanding service, bank RMNs will play a key part in this organisational change, providing flexible therapeutic support to patients and acting as a resource and source of expertise to other clinicians across the hospital.
We are looking for RMNs who are adaptable and comfortable with covering all clinical areas as demand requires; this could mean working flexibly to use your specialist skills in different settings. By joining the Staff Bank, you put yourself at the top of the list for any shifts requiring extra staff throughout the Trust. We have long day and night shifts available including weekends.

Supporting patients who require specialist mental health enhanced observation (1:1 nursing). As a bank RMN, you will have an important role in promoting parity of esteem between mental and physical health in the general hospital setting.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills while providing specialist support and information to patients.
Have excellent nursing assessment and risk management skills, knowledge of the legal frameworks that inform acute mental health care, an understanding of mental health diagnoses and a well-informed understanding of psychosocial interventions.
This post requires that you be highly motivated and professional, flexible in an ever-changing environment, and able to communicate effectively across a multi-professional team.

Key areas of responsibility - Communication and relationships
Possess excellent communication skills and form a positive, therapeutic relationship with people experiencing acute crisis or distress in the context of partnership and trust.
Be an effective communicator and role model in liaising with patients, family/carers, and other healthcare professionals internally and externally.
Be self-aware of how your verbal and nonverbal communication can be interpreted by others and ensure a polite approach is always maintained.
To escalate professional concerns to the nurse in charge of the department and the appropriate senior nurse and always promote professional practice.
To ensure that information of a confidential nature is not divulged to any unauthorised person and is stored in line with the provisions of GDPR.
Ensure all documentation and patient care records are legible, accurate, furnished in a timely fashion, and written in accordance with Trust policy, professional guidance, and best practices.

Qualifications

- NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Demonstrable postqualification experience and knowledge of mental health practice.
- Educated to degree level
- Evidence of continued professional development

- Leadership course/module or qualification
- Management course or qualification
Experience

- Experience working as an RMN post registration, demonstrating effective risk assessment and risk management experience
- Have an excellent understanding and experience in working with patients who have experienced psychological trauma, demonstrating trauma-informed care
- Experience in the delivery of clinical interventions
- Evidence of working within a multi-disciplinary team and with external multi-agencies
- Experience working with patients who may be confused or present with challenging behaviour
- Understands the application of children/adult safeguarding processes and application in practice

- Experience working in Adult’s and Children’s mental health inpatient settings
Skills & Knowledge

- Understanding of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, DOLS and other legislation applicable to the practice area
- Demonstrable knowledge of the post-graduate level of evidence-based practice in caring for patients in the designated field, including specialist knowledge of comorbidity (physical and mental health) about acute and chronic conditions
- Demonstrates excellent written and presentation skills
- Knowledge of medication and the monitoring of its side effects
- Knowledge of psychological interventions
- Can demonstrate good understanding of clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice
- Able to demonstrate interpersonal skills
