Arthroplasty Lead Nurse

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated individual to join our team at Heatherwood Hospital Elective Centre.
The post holder will act as a Arthroplasty Lead Nurse for joint replacements procedures as well as a lead on the GIRFT Programme for HWD Elective Centre , fitting into an already well-established multidisciplinary team. She / He will be responsible for maintaining on-going communication with patients as well as setting up patient support and discharge pathways. She/ he will coordinate the team including the running of MDTs, ward rounds, complex case clinics, virtual projects and lead on new projects and pathways, They will need clinical orthopaedic skills and leadership skills, a knowledge of complex arthroplasty as well as wound management solutions, antibiotics and a drive to improve the care for this group of patients. They will also be leading on compliance with national standards as well as data upload to the National Joint Registry and Bone and Joint Infection Registry, involvement with PROMs data and national audits relevant to Orthopaedic Department.
HWD Elective Centre has six operating theatres, 32 in-patient beds, 22 day-case procedure rooms or ‘pods’ , two endoscopy rooms, three minor procedure facilities providing operations, diagnostics and outpatient care to both NHS and Private patients across Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey.
Main duties of the job
- Work as a high-level practitioner with enhanced clinical skills within an interdepartmental and / or multidisciplinary team primarily to ensure that patients within their sphere of clinical expertise receive holistic, timely and quality clinical care
- Exercise enhanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care, whilst maintaining a professional portfolio that supports their scope of practice
- Working autonomously in conducting clinical examination, formulating a working diagnosis and providing timely treatment interventions in accordance with their scope of practice
- Provides expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues
- Monitor and lead improvements of standards of care through; supervision of practice, clinical audit, implementation of evidence-based practice, teaching and support of colleagues and the provision of professional leadership
- Lead the implementation of new evidence-based practice and contribute to the development of the evidence through research, audit and collaboration with clinical or academic staff
- Contribute to clinical governance by leading quality improvement, audit and research projects as part of the multidisciplinary service-wide performance and quality agenda

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse/ Registered Mental Health Nurse/ Practitioner or Registered Allied Health Professional
- Post registration qualification or equivalent experience gained by undertaking un-going personal development and training focussed on Orthopaedic adults/trauma/elective surgery advanced practice
- Masters in advanced Practice or Masters level award that covers all 4 pillars of the Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) capabilities (essential to include advanced clinical skills and diagnostic reasoning qualifications.)
- Teaching and assessing qualification/ Mentorship/Assessor qualification
- Registered Non-medical prescriber with evidence of update knowledge appropriate to the patient groups prescribing for.
- Management/Leadership Qualification or development programme

- Evidence of involvement in the development of programmes of care protocols and audits
- Computer Literacy including presentation skills and report writing
- Evidence of relevant leadership in meeting clinical governance objectives
