Healthcare Science Assistant/Senior Healthcare Science Assistant

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

We are looking for an ambitious Healthcare Science Assistant / Senior Healthcare Science Assistant to join the Cardiology team at the Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre.

Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) are being established across the country under a government programme to improve local access to diagnostic testing.

Newmarket’s’ CDC will open November 2024 and, once open, will deliver approximately 100,000 outpatient tests a year, which alongside Cardiology, will include CT, MRI, X-ray, Ultrasound, blood tests and Respiratory. This will mean the communities in and around Newmarket will have quicker and easier access to the tests they need in a modern facility located on their doorstep. The centre, offering a 7 day a week service, will reduce waiting times and tackling health inequalities by ensuring our patients get their test arranged, their results back and any necessary treatment scheduled more quickly.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for passionate, ambitious individuals to join our Electrocardiography (ECG) and Ambulatory monitoring team in Diagnostic Cardiology.

What we ask of you

·         It is essential that you are proficient in performing 12-lead ECGs and fitting ambulatory monitors.

·         Have the ability to work independently in an ECG team.

·         It is essential that you to have / have the willingness to obtain a professional ECG qualification with the SCST.

Treat our patients with the dignity and respect they have a right to expect.

·         Make a positive difference to our patients’ experience.

·         Good communication and listening skills.

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.

Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

We do our utmost to achieve outstanding clinical outcomes for patients and our values of fairness, inclusivity, respect, safety and team work guide how we work and behave as a team.

With nearly 5,000 staff, from all over the world, we strive to make our organisation a great place to work. Whatever your role or ambition, we want to help you be the best you can be.

We promote a diverse and inclusive community where everyones voice counts and you can #BeKnown for whoever you are.
