West Suffolk Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a health care Assistant to join our dynamic, friendly team in the Acute Assessment unit, if you are a passionate, experienced health Care Assistant committed to developing and delivering high standards of Emergency care then we look forward to hearing from you.
Our AAU is a thriving, innovative, front door service consistent of 23 assessment trolleys which operates 24 hours a day, it is a fast-paced unit which cares for patients with varied medical conditions in their acute phase. The unit is part of the Same Day Emergency Care program where we deliver rapid assessment of Medical and surgical patient’s including diagnostic and treatment without being admitted to a ward. They can then go home on the same day if it is clinically safe to do so.
The Acute Assessment unit will help you to develop your clinical nursing skills and support your commitment. You will be given a thorough training and development plan and the support and help of the other friendly staff in the unit.

Please note that Certificate of Sponsorship is not available for this role as it does not meet the minimum salary requirements for the health and care visa (which is a sub category of the skilled worker visa). Currently the salary requirement is £23’200 per annum for the health and care or £38’700 per annum for the skilled worker route.
The starting salary for this position is £22,383 whilst training.
If you are currently sponsored by an employer you must work for your employer full time. Any additional work is restricted to 20 hpw and the minimum contract for this post is 23 hpw due to training needs.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 – 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete “on call” duties within their role.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Holds National Care Certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks or starting
Desirable criteria
- National Care Certificate holder
- Functional skills level 1 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent
- Previous experience of being a Health Care Support Worker
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience working in a healthcare, social care organisation/setting or service industry requiring people contact.
- Ability to work with staff from a diverse range of backgrounds
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a health care environment.
- To demonstrate a range of procedures and practices, base level of theoretical knowledge
- Demonstrate through previous experience the ability to escalate concerns
- Ability to work in a multi-agency team
- Ability to work alone or in small team
Skills and abilities

- Skills and abilities Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Effective use of electronic solutions to support the delivery of patient care.
- Able to work as a team.
