An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Department at the West Suffolk Hospital Foundation Trust. We are seeking to recruit Band 3 Clinical Support Workers into our team. We are looking for workers with a minimum of one years’ experience in an acute care setting. Our main goal at the WSH Emergency Department is to provide quality patient centred care, whilst striving as a team and as a Trust, to achieve the national ED targets.

The role of the Health Care Assistant (HCA) in the department is to assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care. To maintain patients' privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner. To be an effective part of the multi-disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives. To continue to develop and maintain competencies in nursing tasks to maintain high quality safe care.
The Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward / department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
- Contributes to the work of the department by working under direct or indirect supervision of registered practitioners or assistant practitioners.

We have recently undertaken a major expansion project which opened in early 2021. This together with a Rapid Assessment Area means we can ensure we meet all our patients’ needs and ensure optimised service delivery. It doesn’t stop here! We have a dedicated and enthusiastic ED work force that includes Acute Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) who can see, treat and discharge their own patients, assisting the medical ED team in delivering excellent care.
Following a CQC inspection in 2019, our Emergency Department received an overall rating of ‘Good’. We are passionate supporters of our nursing team at every grade, but recognise the unique skills and experience that our Band 3 staff bring to the team. As our ideal candidate you must have a strong desire to deliver high quality ED nursing care as part of a motivated team.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 – 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete “on call” duties within their role.

Please note that Certificate of Sponsorship is not available for this role as it does not meet the minimum salary requirements for the health and care visa (which is a sub category of the skilled worker visa). Currently the salary requirement is £23’200 per annum for the health and care or £38’700 per annum for the skilled worker route.
The starting salary for this position is £22,383 whilst training.
If you are currently sponsored by an employer you must work for your employer full time. Any additional work is restricted to 20 hpw and the minimum contract for this post is 23 hpw due to training needs.

- NVQ level 3 or working towards.

- Ability to communicate with a range of different people, including service users, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team
