Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) would like to welcome Clinical/Counselling Psychologists with an interest in physical health to apply for this role working into Renal Services at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH). The post will be hosted and managed within MPFT’s Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Care Group, networked into a dynamic group of Psychologists / Psychological Practitioners across a range of specialisms.
The post-holder will contribute to the provision of high quality psychological care to adult patients with Chronic Kidney Disease. They will work with multidisciplinary teams based at the Renal Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Hollinswood House Telford, and Ludlow satellite unit. This will include the provision of direct psychological interventions for renal patients, work with the renal team, staff training and supervision. There will be opportunities and support for developing innovative ways of working with patients and their families, to adjust to and live well alongside the challenges of ill health.
Clinical supervision will be provided by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and the post holder will be welcomed at regular business and topic meetings where other Psychologists and Psychological Practitioners working in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin come together to share updates and reflect on the work across a diverse range of services being delivered for local communities.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include:
- Supporting patients to adjust to their diagnosis or illness and changes in its severity.
- Designing and implementing interventions with patients having psychological difficulties due to/or exacerbated by their illness and its treatment
- Assisting patients with making complex treatment choices such as which form of renal replacement therapy to choose.
- Working with the team to understand and resolve treatment adherence issues
- Supporting patients and their families when deciding to stop dialysis
- Supporting staff in the management of patients with challenging behaviours on dialysis
- Offering psychological consultation to the renal team, including the facilitation of reflective practice
- Teaching and training as required

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
Experience

- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a health Psychology setting

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
