NOUS Lead Sonographer (Band 8a)
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, dynamic, innovative and professional individual to lead a large and dynamic non obstetric ultrasound service with a desire to develop and progress the service.
They should hold a CASE accredited Qualification at master's level and have extensive clinical experience across a range of patient pathways.
They should have a flexible approach to working and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an enthusiasm and commitment to delivering an effective, efficient and quality service.
We are a large modern department with a broad range of equipment. We are a fast paced, dynamic and vibrant department with an interesting and challenging case load.
We provide out-patient services across a range of locations and support our busy acute in-patient portals across 7 days including bank holidays. We offer a variety of sub speciality scanning including, vascular, paediatric, MSK and Head & Neck.
Main duties of the job
- Overall accountability for the ultrasound team and service
- Perform and report a broad range of examinations maintaining the highest quality of patient care and professional autonomy.
- Work closely with the ultrasound operational team to facilitate effective performance and people management, ensuring appropriate workflows are maintained.
- Professional leadership and governance of the team, providing effective clinical leadership for Sonographers, motivating and inspiring to deliver the best care for patients.
- Quality improvement, ensuring effective quality assurance and policy review are undertaken, to meet the requirements of the Quality Standards in Imaging accreditation process.
- Workforce development plans, embracing new ways of expanding the workforce for effective succession planning. Ensuring effective skill-mix is available for service delivery, contributing to the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Financial management of the Ultrasound service budget and engaging in the Capital Planning process.
- Work closely with Imaging senior management to deliver strategic objectives of the Directorate.
- Promote audit & research, developing innovative practice and identify where service improvements can be made.
- To be responsible for environment and equipment routine maintenance plans.

- HCPC registered, with evidence of higher-level study at master's Level; Alternatively working knowledge and experience at an equivalent level

- Extensive experience in a leadership or managerial role within an Imaging service covering a wide range of procedures.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of a leadership or managerial role within an Ultrasound department.

- Knowledge of workforce planning and financial management processes applicable to an Ultrasound service.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of management of change processes to support service delivery.
