Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Locum Consultant Obstetrician for 12 months.  The candidate should have a specialist interest in Perinatal Mental Health and Safeguarding.   You will be part of a team of 27 Consultants.  The job plan- 9.728 PA job plan. 

The post-holder will be required to provide the full range of obstetric skills such as managing the Labour Ward, Antenatal clinics, Section Lists, and Maternity Assessment Unit in collaboration with existing consultants and within the multi-disciplinary team.  Evidence of an interest in perinatal mental health will be expected on application.

The applicant will also be expected to participate and  support work with regional perinatal mental health services and the safeguarding team.

UHNM is a one of the biggest stand-alone maternity units in the country delivering over 7000 deliveries per annum with a level 3 neonatal unit on site .  UHNM is the primary teaching hospital for Keele University School of Medicine.

The post holders will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and will work within a team based structure to support care across both hospital sites.  He / She will also be expected to participate in the immediate management functions and strategic planning of the Division and Trusts on both sites.

Clinical duties will be across 2 sites, royal Stoke and County Hospital.  You will participate in a 1:14 weekday & weekend on-call.

The applicant will also be expected to participate in the trust leadership programmes and be supported to work with regional perinatal mental health services and the safeguarding team.

 County Hospital is the sister hospital to Royal Stoke University Hospital which has been extensively refurbished into a vibrant modern acute local hospital. The hospital provides a range of acute services across its 180 beds, including:

  • Accident and Emergency and Acute Medicine
  • Women’s Health Centre
  • Renal Dialysis
  • Bariatric Surgery
  • Endoscopy
  • MRI diagnostics
  • Outpatients

The post holders will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and will work within a team based structure to support care across both hospital sites.  He / She will be a member of the relevant divisional, trust and regional committees.  He / She will also be expected to participate in the immediate management functions and strategic planning of the Division and Trusts on both sites.

 

Person specification

Qulifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • CCST or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of date of the AAC
  • ATSM – Advanced Labour Ward / High Risk Antenatal
  • ATSM – Maternal Medicine with specific interest in Perinatal Mental Health or equivalent
  • Safeguarding Level 3 or above
Desirable criteria
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD, PhD, FRCS)

Clinical Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and supervision
  • Experience of clinical supervision and mentorship

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

Essential criteria
  • Experience in research including recruitment to clinical trials
Desirable criteria
  • Peer reviewed publications
  • Evidence of continuing research
