Job overview

This role works as part of the Trust's Financial Accounts team and will be responsible for supporting the Financial Accountant - Transactions in contributing to the maintenance of cash and bank records and the day-to-day financial accounting functions of the Trust.

Ensure their key responsibilities run as efficiently and effectively as possible ensuring a high level of customer service is delivered to the Trust at all times.  Ensuring Standing Financial Instructions, best accounting practice and other statutory legislation is adhered to.

The role consists of hybrid working both at home and in the office.

Main duties of the job

Key elements of the role are to:-

  • Assist with the Treasury function , liaising with East Lancashire Financial Shared Services (ELFS) in making payments and ensuring treasury related issues are investigated and rectified in a timely manner.
  • Support the preparation of the Trusts bank reconciliation and other balance sheet reconciliations.  Dealing and resolving bank related queries by liaising with the bank and other organisations.
  • Provide cover for the Cashiers Office involving receiving and recording monies from around the Trust. 
  • Deal with enquiries from patients, relatives, members of the public and Trust staff by telephone or in person.
  • Administration and reconciliation of Trusts petty cash floats.
  • Use the Trusts ledger system (ABS) to post monthly journals, raise requisitions, goods receipting and system enquiries.
  • Reconciliation of salary deductions and preparation of payments to be made to the appropriate bodies

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE's including Maths and English
  • AAT Certification level 3 and/or level 4 or equivalent qualification in a related subject are e.g. business or accountancy

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years experience in a finance role
  • Treasury management experience in a large organisation
  • IT skills including Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of Financial controls
Desirable criteria
  • Internal and / or external audit experience
  • Finance Ledger experience

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Strong verbal communication Skills
  • Able to use own initiative and work as a team member
  • Able to prioritise and manage workload
Desirable criteria
  • NHS Finance Experience
