Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Specialist Pelvic Health Team as a NMC Registered Specialist Pelvic Health Nurse Advisor.

You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of continence promotion and management of incontinence supporting clients who are registered with a GP in Staffordshire.

You will be skilled in providing assessments for continence problems, care and support needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment plans to overall improve client awareness and continence.

This role will be diverse and you will be responsible to providing this service across a variety of settings including community clinics, residential homes and clients own.

Due to the nature of the role you will need to be able to sufficiently travel across a large geographical area.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a diagnosis of an individual's continence condition and agreeing courses of action following assessment to address health and wellbeing needs of individuals with the supervision of the Specialist Pelvic Health Nurses.

As part of this role you will also be required to:

  • Be skilled in supporting clients who require containment management, to prescribe the appropriate appliances.
  •  Maintain and develop skills and knowledge in relation to continence promotion and management, to deliver a range of interventions and set an example of good practice to other team members including skill sharing.
    • Complete a Basic and/ or Specialist Continence assessment (dependent on client need) with clients to formulate, treatment programs, supporting from families and carer’s when appropriate.
    • Evaluate the treatment programs with clients, referring to the Band 6 Specialist Nurses or the Specialist Physiotherapist in the team for complex clients as required. Plans may include the following:
      - Promoting independence/self-management and maintaining safety

      - Assessing pelvic floor strength and teaching basic pelvic floor exercises
      - Bladder retraining
      - Bowel re-training Diet and Fluid advice
      - Bladder scanning Teaching ISC/ supporting patients with ISC
      - Prescribing Containment equipment

      -
      Prescribing Containment products
      - Improvement in health and wellbeing including mental health Interventions
        in disease/condition management

      - Prevention and reducing of health inequalities

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Adult Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with NMC.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant supporting experience of placements including surgical, medical, palliative care, urology, community nursing where managing continence has been part of the role.
  • Working towards Mentorship MPFT Bowel dysfunction training – competencies completed MPFT Catheter Care training - competencies completed MPFT Bladder Scanning Training - competencies completed MPFT – Pelvic Floor assess ment training- competencies completed

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience/placements to the role including assessment and management of continence and wound care.
Desirable criteria
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team
