Band 5 Pharmacy Quality Officer - Technical Services

There has been significant investment in Pharmacy Technical Services. We are looking for an experienced highly motivated Pharmacy Quality Officer to join our well established Quality team within Technical Services. The role will support the further development of the service.  

 

The MHRA licenced ‘Specials’ pharmacy manufacturing unit is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and is a modern purpose built unit within the hospital.  The service encompasses aseptic, chemotherapy, over labelling and re-packaging products, supplying both the trust and external organisations. The quality team also support the licensed activities within the Radiopharmacy service at UHNM.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the operation of, maintenance of and development of the Pharmacy Quality Management Systems (PQMS) meeting the changing requirements of the department, the Trust and external regulators.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the terms of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) Manufacturer’s ‘Specials’ Licence, ICH and other national guidelines related to pharmaceutical manufacturing and reconstitution or repackaging activities.
  • Support PQMS including electronic and paper based documentation systems ensuring compliance to the requirements of MHRA GxP data Integrity
  • Support the routine environmental monitoring of cleanroom facilities. Responsible for review and trending of data produced
  • Support the future development of the Pharmacy Services delivered to patients across the organisation. This is in line with the Directorate Business Plan and the Trust Vision and Strategic Objectives
  • Act as a releasing officer or be eligible to undertake training to be a releasing officer and undertake scheduled releasing sessions within production
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators and support the development of a performance dashboard for pharmacy technical services
  • Take every opportunity to promote the work of the Technical Services Team at a regional and national level through practice research, abstracts, poster presentations and networking

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Proactively undertake staff engagement to promote the Trust Values and Behaviours and staff well-being
  • Perform the duties of Quality Controller (MGPS) as specified in HTM02 for UHNM Trust medical gases systems or be eligible to attend a training session and be eligible to be added to the National register of QCMGP’s
  • Participate in appropriate rotas, including weekend and bank holiday working

To achieve this, you will need to have knowledge of PQMS, excellent organisational, communication and digital skills and a high degree of attention to detail.  

You will be supported in this role by an experienced team and actively encouraged to enrol on courses and study days to further your personal development. You will promote the service at Trust, Regional and National forums including posters at conferences and support wider projects and business development opportunities.

Person specification

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A degree level qualification in the chemical sciences or equivalent
  • A bachelor degree (or equivalent), in a subject related to the pharmaceutical sciences
  • A degree in a bioscience subject
  • Registered or be eligible for membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Quality Controller (MGPS)
  • Relevant further education / additional learning

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • An understanding and some experience of Pharmaceutical quality system. For example change control, deviation investigations, and CAPA management.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of cleanroom design and functioning
  • Knowledge and experience of capacity and contingency planning and monitoring
  • Experience of training staff
