Job overview

Following  approval of a new business case, we are looking for a Paediatric Dietitian looking to move into Neonatal Dietetics to support our Clinical Lead Neonatal Dietitian with expanding the Dietetic Service into the Level 3 NICU and Neonatal Outreach Services.

These are exciting times for the Unit with a newly funded Physiotherapist and Clinical Psychologist recently joining the AHP Team along with well established relationships with Speech and Language Therapists, Neonatal Pharmacist and Infant Feeding Team … come and join our friendly and supportive team!

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist dietetic services in tandem with the Lead Clinician to sick and preterm Neonates at University Hospitals of North Midlands. Using specialised knowledge and skills to ensure evidence based nutritional assessment, treatment and management for Neonates requiring specialist nutritional interventions.

You will be a welcomed into the Neonatal MDT, supporting the development, planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluation of the Neonatal Dietetic Service. Nutritional care of our babies is valued and has a high profile on the Unit with a Nutrition Lead Neonatologist and regular Nutrition Team Ward Rounds.

You will work as an autonomous practitioner with clinical supervision from the Lead Clinician. Trusts throughout the West Midlands Perinatal Network are also recruiting Band 6 Neonatal Dietitians and we are looking to develop a cross network supportive peer group including education & training sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support the Clinical Lead Neonatal Dietitan to provide specialist, high quality, patient focused care to sick and pre-term neonates and their families or carers.

Requires knowledge and skills to ensure evidence based nutritional assessment, treatment and management for Neonates with specialist nutritional needs within the Inpatient and Neonatal Outreach settings.

 To ensure safe practice by carrying a dietetic caseload of Neonates, working as an experienced autonomous practitioner alongside the Clinical Lead Dietitian, therapy colleagues and the wider MDT.

To support the Clinical Lead in the development, organisation and delivery of care within this area.

Contribute to the day to day planning, monitoring, delivery and evaluation of the Neonatal Dietetic Service. Supporting clinical governance processes which seek to improve the quality of the Neonatal Dietetic Service by way of evidence based clinical practice, education, research and audit.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered dietitian (with relevant BSc, postgraduate diploma or masters)
  • Health Care Professions Council registration
  • Post registration paediatric dietetic experience
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience of managing Neonates
  • Evidence of CPD in relation to Neonatal Nutrition

Experience and skills

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrate relevant work experience in hospital paediatric dietetics within the NHS
  • • Demonstrates evidence of MDT working including decision making and care coordination skills
  • • Experience in paediatric enteral feeding.
  • • Experience of working in different clinical settings
  • • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • • Completion of E Learning for Health Neonatal Dietetics Modules
  • • Infant Feeding Training
  • • Membership of relevant special interest groups (BDA Paediatric Group / Neonatal Specialist Interest Group)

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstartes enthusiasm about Dietetics in the Neonatal environment
  • • Willingness to support pre-registration practice training for student dietitians
  • • Works with patients and people at the fore – operates to a customer service ethos
