There is an opportunity to join our team this summer to cover a maternity leave within our Older Adult and Stroke Dietetic services. The post holder will work with the senior dietitians within Medicine to continue to collaboratively provide an effective dietetic service across UHNM, leading by example and in line with trust priorities and values. This will include team leadership and supporting the departmental Coordinator of the day.
The post holder will share a caseload with a new registrants, providing supervision and mentorship to support their development, whilst also working with the wider Medicine team to continue to promote and develop the role of a dietitian in their specialist area.
The post holder will participate in audit, service improvement, service evaluation and student training for Dietitians, in addition to student nurses, medical students and advanced practitioners
Main duties of the job

To liaise with dietitians within the team and ensure overall prioritisation of workload within the team supporting other members as appropriate. This will include clinical support at County Hospital as required.
To support Lead Dietitan in Medicine.
To support and liaise with the dietitians, dietetic assistants and student dietitians.
To actively participate in ward meetings, ward rounds, case conferences as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work as part of the established multi-disciplinary team providing dietetic input to patients in specialties Stroke, Older Adults & General Medicine, liaising with other disciplines and agencies as required in the planning and implementation of patient care. This will include participation in teaching at UHNM Stroke School.
Delivers specialised dietetic services to patients, using a wide range of appropriate and sensitive communication skills and counselling, and behaviour change techniques. Uses analytical and problem solving skills to interpret analyse and evaluate complex information from a variety of sources e.g. medical notes, diagnostic tests, clinical investigations and information from patients and carers.
To liaise with dietitians within the team and ensure overall prioritisation of workload within the team supporting other members as appropriate. This will include clinical support at County Hospital as required.
· To work alongside consultants, specialist nurses and ward staff to provide specialist nutritional treatment plans as part of holistic patient care.
To provide, individually tailored advice for patients
· To educate patients and their relatives / carers about their condition and its significance and ensure that care information and support is available.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered dietitian (with relevant BSc, postgraduate diploma or masters leading to eligibility for registration with Health Professions Council
- Health Care Professions Council registration as Dietitian
Desirable criteria
- Completion of PENG Clinical Update Course
- Evidence of Service Improvement training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post graduate experience in NHS including experience in medicine including Older adults and Stroke
- Experience of working as a enhanced dietitian in nutrition support
- Experience of delivering care to people in acute clinical settings and outpatient settings within NHS.
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Able to work as an autonomous practitioner - set own priorities and meet daily clinical deadlines
- Ability to travel across sites within UHNM
- Demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and tact with patients and their families.
