Job overview
The Housekeeping staff provide a clean and safe environment to our patients, visitors and staff ensuring that a high standard of cleanliness in line with National Cleaning Standards, infection control and health and safety are met and maintained.
The post holder will be expected to work as part of the wider Housekeeping team, providing an integrated and flexible service, and as such may sometimes be required to undertake duties within other areas of the Hotel Services Department should the needs of the service demand it.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain the required standard of cleaning services following the correct procedure and frequencies
- Undertake a variety of cleaning duties in line with the ward/area/location cleaning schedules
- Operate mechanical cleaning equipment
- Replenish disposables and consumables
- Safely and correctly store cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Carry out specialist cleaning and one-off cleaning duties in line with service requirements
- Assist with laundry duties as and when required
- Where applicable – ward based duties as required:
o Ward based catering duties to ensure in conjunction with nursing staff that service users are provided with appropriate meals
o Regenerate food, probe, record temperature of food and serve
o Ensure that meals are served in a presentable and timely manner and appropriate cutlery and condiments are supplied
o Assist to ensure dining room area is ready for service and cleared afterwards
o Record waste levels at end of service
o Clean regeneration trolley

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Willing to complete all in-house training necessary to own role
Desirable criteria
- Basic food hygiene certificate
- Willing to undertake training work towards a qualification to fulfil the role, eg diploma level 2 (NVQ) relevant to the post, BICS (British Institute of Cleaning Science)
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience to carry out duties to the required standard
- Valid driving licence
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Computer literate
- Experience in food preparation and handling
- Manual handling experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Ability to solve a problem (in line with the role level)
- Ability to allocate work
- Basic knowledge of chemicals and cleaning products
- Broad knowledge of specialist cleaning techniques and equipment
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
