Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Staff Nurse for quality and education within Ward 106/107 Urology and Gynaecology at the University Hospital Royal Stoke.  Please note this post consists of day and night shifts, 36 hours per week. 

We pride ourselves in supporting patients with urology and gynaecology conditions, with ongoing medical problems and pre and post op for both elective and emergency procedures. Nurses within our specialities have in-depth experience in all aspects of Urology and Gynaecology conditions providing care safely and at a a high standard. 

We are looking for a dynamic and driven Senior Staff Nurse who is passionate about urology and gynaecology and has at least 2 years experience in caring for patients within these specialities. The post holder will require enthusiasm, motivation and passion to help deliver a patient focused service, to contribute to the visions and values of our specialty and Trust. We strive to provide a gold standard of care for patients within our specialities and this role is vital in achieving this. 

Main duties of the job

We are a fast paced unit consisting of a double template unit with a total of 32 beds. You will be expected to use your effective organisational skills to lead the team whilst on shift, supporting the bed manager and MDT to ensure sufficient patient flow throughout the department and delivering safe and effective care.  You will utilise your clinical experience to make decisions, solve problems and deputise in the absence of the senior sister.

You will be expected to liaise with the clinical educator for surgery, to ensure that you are  up to date with current best clinical practice and to remain at the forefront of ward staffs educational and training requirements. 

You will be actively involved in ward audits and have the understanding to the collect the data to provide any required quality improvement action plans. You will also need to assist with PDR'S, DATIX and Tendable.

You will be allocated a managerial day once a week to facilitate you fulfilling your Quality nurse role. 

Person specification

2 years nursing experience

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registration
  • Nursing degree or equivalent
  • 2 years post qualifying
  • Urology and Gynaecology experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of taking charge of a ward
  • Student assessor
  • Post graduate study
