Job overview

There is an exciting opportunity within the Enhanced Primary Care Unit and Emergency Department. The successful candidate will deal with a wide range of primary care presentations in both adults and children using advanced clinical skills to investigate, diagnose and instigate treatment.

There is scope to employ an ACP with relevant experience who has not yet completed their MSc as a Band 7 until the MSc is completed.

 

Main duties of the job

        Uses highly developed clinical knowledge to independently assess, diagnose plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions for patients presenting to the speciality with complex, undifferentiated, undefined and chronic presentations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       Compliant with respective code of professional conduct and practice within their own scope of practice.

·       Responsible for their own acts and omissions and accountable for their decisions at this level of practice.

·       Uses highly developed clinical knowledge to independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions for patients presenting to the speciality with complex, undifferentiated, undefined and chronic presentations.

·       Autonomously analyses complex clinical assessment and investigations to consider differential diagnoses, diagnose conditions and initiating treatments as necessary.

·       Performs advanced clinical procedures within their own competence and scope of practice and have a clear record of skill competence and maintenance of competency.

 

·       Requests investigations which are suitable for each individual patient including laboratory tests, ultrasounds, radiological investigations in adherence to local and national policy and protocol.

·       Acts on professional judgement about when to seek help, demonstrating critical reflection on own practice, self-awareness, emotional intelligence and openness to change.

 

·       Analyses multiple sources of data including patient history, physical examination and investigation findings when making diagnoses, clinical judgements and evaluating care provided, presenting this information, to speciality/senior medical staff for advice when scope of practice is exceeded.

 

·       Continuously re-evaluates findings and clinical response to treatment and establishes an appropriate ongoing management plan accordingly.

 

·       Priorities health problems and intervenes appropriately in complex, urgent and emergency situations, including initiation and leadership of resuscitation.

 

·       Manages clinical events involving patients, often requiring unpredictable and high levels of mental and/or physical effort according to the patient’s dependency and clinical need.

 

·       If the ACPs area of speciality requires, the ACP is integrated into the medical work force and provides rota cover as agreed.
