We have an exciting and rare opportunity to join the South East Staffs Rehabilitation Team based at Samuel Johnson Hospital, Lichfield as a Therapy Assistant.
A multi-disciplinary approach is taken to assess and treat individuals referred to the service and as part of this role you will be working alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Specialist Nurses and Therapy Assistant Practitioners to provide patients with rehabilitation goals and treatment plans.
You will join a well-established and friendly team to deliver essential individual patient support and as part of your role you will deliver the implementation of intervention/therapy programmes developed and agreed by registered practitioners.
The team work across domiciliary and clinic settings in Burntwood, Lichfield and Tamworth areas. Due to the nature of the role you will need sufficient transport to travel across the large geographical area covered.
Main duties of the job
As part of this role you will contribute to the assessment and implementation of programs of treatment, care/support for individuals, families and carers under the guidance of a registered practitioner.
The care/support plans may include the following:
· Promoting independence/self-management and maintaining safety
· Increased functional ability
· Improvement in health and wellbeing including mental health
· Interventions in disease/condition management
· Prevention and reducing of health inequalities
· Admission avoidance
· Early supported discharge
· Contribute to case management/ treatment care plans
· Palliative and end of life care
· Train patients and their carer’s in the safe use of assistive aids and equipment
· Maintain clear and accurate patient records

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 2 in health related subject and/or equivalent experience
- Evidence of/willing to undertake training relevant to the post.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ level 3 in related subject or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Relevant placements/experience to the role
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Working in a team/multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
- Specific experience including supporting or contributing to assessment and management of individuals with compromised functional ability
- Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with the impact of compromised functional ability.
- Experience of working in therapy.
- NHS experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Understanding of Care Certificate standards
- The ability to demonstrate a basic knowledge of physiotherapy and its purpose.
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of Information Governance Data Protection, HCPC and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults/Children.
- A basic understanding of medical conditions

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
