Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, Registered Social Worker to join our ambitious, innovative and supportive Adult Social Care Community team in Lichfield. We offer a hybrid blended working approach of home and office to support our Trust wide flexible working initiative.

The service supports people within our locality whom are predominantly over the age of 18 with physical disabilities and older people over the age of 65 with physical and/or mental health needs.

You will be advocating and working with adults with complex needs and their carers, working collaboratively with colleagues from other agencies to develop support and services appropriate to people’s individual needs utilising a strength-based approach.  

This is both an interesting and challenging post for someone who has a commitment to improving outcomes for the people we work with.

To be considered for the role you be expected to hold either an Approved Mental Health Professional, Best Interest Assessor or Practice Educator qualification or the willingness to work towards obtaining one of these. 

Main duties of the job

As a highly skilled Registered Social Worker you will be expected to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and other legal and statutory frameworks. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. 

As a Trust, we offer informal support and advice as required, monitored caseload numbers, monthly formal supervisions and membership to the Social Work Learning Academy, which supports ongoing professional development opportunities, learning and career development. You will have direct support from the Practice Lead and colleagues as well providing peer support to your team.

Due to the nature of the role, you will need to have a full driving licence and access to a car.

Social Work Learning Academy (SWLA)

On appointment, the you will be enrolled in the SWLA and aligned to the appropriate British Association of Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework.  The relevant SWLA ‘stage’ (i.e. stage 1 (ASYE), 2 (Social Worker) or 3 (Advanced Social Worker) will also be agreed taking all prior Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and relevant experience into consideration. The post holder will be required to take responsibility for their own Continuous Professional Development.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Professional Social Work qualification, DipSW, CQSW, CSS, BA, MA or Foreign qualification where certified by the Professional Social Work regulatory body
  • Ensuring current registration with the Professional Social Work regulatory body at all times.
  • To hold/to undertake and achieve the status of Approved Mental Health Professional and/or Best Interest Assessor as per the SWLA Career Pathway
  • To undertake and achieve the status of Work Based Supervisor and Practice Educator as per the SWLA Career Pathway
  • Good keyboard / IT skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email and PowerPoint
  • An ongoing commitment to personal and professional development.
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
Desirable criteria
  • Existing accreditation relating to Practice Educator/Work Based Supervisor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-qualification experience of working with adults with needs associated to older age, physical health or mental health needs and their carers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of social work in other user groups/settings i.e. Children and Families, Learning Disabilities, Older Adults Experience of a development role for service/ facilities
