Job overview

We are excited to share this opportunity to work as a Speciality Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry within our dynamic and forward-thinking Older Adults Community Mental Health service. We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with a genuine and distinct passion for working with older adults with mental health difficulties.

The Older Adult Community Teams deliver care within Dementia and Older Adult Mental Health pathways, focusing on ensuring that service users are supported to remain in their own home wherever hospitalisation can be safely and appropriately avoided. 

You will have active input into various aspects of this well-established Older Adult Mental Health Service, carrying out assessments and implementing treatment plans for patients with both organic and functional illnesses.

You will also work with the Hospital Avoidance Team for Older Adults, supporting patients with urgent needs to try and avoid hospital admission and will also see patients in clinics, on home visits and utilise telephone and video consultations.

You will take part in the 2nd tier on call rota for out of hours.

You will cover a geographical sector of South Staffordshire WEST which includes the areas of Cannock, Rugeley, Stafford & Seisdon.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will provide active involvement in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of service user care, responding quickly to those referred with high-risk mental health and complex care needs. You will work with an established multidisciplinary mental health team to provide collaborative, effective, evidence based interventions at the right time, and the right place, with the right person.

You will work alongside two consultant Psychiatrists and supervision will be provided. 2 ANP’s will also form part of the wider MDT within this locality.

Working as a SAS Doctor within the Multidisciplinary team and in partnership with third sector agencies, your duties will include providing:

·       Specialist assessment and care planning in conjunction with service users and carers.

·       Evidenced based care that is recovery focused.

·       Evaluating treatment plans and undertaking discharge planning

·       Responsibility for an agreed case load.

·       Response to and informing referrers / other professionals as necessary on decisions, care plans, policy and best practice.

·       Excellent leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Full registration with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Degree, such as Msc or MD
  • MRCPsych

Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation such as The Mental Health Act

  • Be Section 12 Approved /have AC status
