Job overview
We are looking to appoint to Whole time Specialty Doctor in Urology to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of Urological Surgery services for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust, to enable the Trust to fulfil its service agreements with Sheffield Health and other commissioners. The appointee may also be required to provide routine and/or emergency cover for sessions at other network hospitals. The appointee will participate on the on-call rota at middle-grade level.
The appointee will provide a general urology service but occasionally, may develop to support sub-specialties within urology. Experience of providing Endourology and Stone services would be beneficial. 6 months NHS Experience
In addition, to the main clinical duties at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust the post holders will provide an advisory and consultative service to medical and surgical colleagues within the catchment area.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution
- MRCS or equivalent
- FRCSUrol or working towards (eg completed pt 1)
- A minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in the relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in the specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
- Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice
Desirable criteria
- MD or PhD or equivalent
- Fellowship or equivalent
- Wider experience in different units
- Middle grade on call experience in busy Urology unit
- Experience of providing Endourology/Stone surgery
- 6 months NHS Experience
Management and Clinical Governance
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate and understanding of management & clinical governance issues
- Understands the principles outlined in the GMC document Good Medical Practice
- Understands the requirements of Medical Appraisal and Revalidation

- Documented completed audits during training

- Willingness and ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
