Information and Service Improvement Analyst

Working with the Specialised Cancer Medicine and Rehabilitation the role will provide senior information analyst support to the management team within the care group.  Working closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues across a range of specialities including Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Sexual Health Services, Spinal Injuries, Clinical Immunology & Allergy, Dermatology and Oncology.

 Deliver a high-quality information analysis service to Directors, Clinicians, Senior Managers and other healthcare professionals, both internally and externally, in respect of strategy and operational requirements to support commissioning, research, business planning processes, performance management and the corporate requirements of the organisation.   

 Support strategic programmes of work in progress or in development which are designed to drive forward transformational change and improve services for our patients and staff. Currently there are developments in Haematology services, HIV service, Sexual Health Service and Spinal Cord Injury Services. This role will work alongside established project and service managers to drive forward the service improvement initiatives. 

Act as lead specialist in discrete areas on the development of information reports to meet new and complex requirements.  

Provide line management and workload co-ordination for the Business Analyst team across the Care group.

  • Expert level of skill in information analysis and synthesis, including the ability to receive highly complex and sensitive information on patient details and diagnoses and the ability to interpret, draw conclusions from it and synthesise new knowledge from the findings. The data may be conflicting and may be contentious to those receiving it. The post holder must have an understanding of the issues facing the NHS and strategic objectives
  • Ability to interpret national policy and guidance documents to provide expertise on information issues.
  • Ability to make decisions and show considerable initiative in the formulation of recommendations and subsequent actions.
  • Expert technical knowledge of information systems including in depth knowledge of NHS data definitions.
  • Expert skills in complex data extraction from the Trust’s information databases including the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) and manipulation of this data in spread sheets and PC applications such as Excel and Access, using skills at an advanced level of expertise.
  • Good knowledge of PbR and the contracting process, and an awareness of the business-critical implications for the Trust.
  • Competent programming skills and experience using R and R Studio.
  • Application and a sound understanding of statistical analysis techniques with the ability to produce a variety of graphical representations of complex information with a particular focus on time series data such as Run Charts and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
  • Good knowledge of service improvement techniques with an emphasis of measured evidenced improvement.
  • Application and a good understanding of Dr Foster benchmarking and reporting tools.
  • Develop and deploy a diverse range of modelling techniques to plan, analyse, quantify, develop and improve services alongside improvement partners.
  • Develop small bespoke software applications to assist SI colleagues and improvement partners to collect consistent improvement data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to form positive relationships with stakeholder at all levels of the organisation
