Job overview
We are looking for permanent Band 5 Therapeutic Radiographers to join this Sheffield team that is part of the Yorkshire and Humber radiotherapy network.
This modern department comprises of Eight Varian linear accelerators, including four Truebeam (two of which are Truebeam STX). We are commissioning 2 Halcyon units in January 2025. Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy, Image Guided Radiotherapy and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy are standard practice across the department. There is an orthovoltage & superficial unit and two Philips CT scanners with virtual simulation and Varian RGSC gating system. We offer radiotherapy for paediatric patients and deliver SABR, CHART and TBI.
We are a clinical placement site for student radiographers from Sheffield Hallam University and all staff are actively involved in the education and assessment of student radiographers.
A preceptorship programme of support is offered.
Main duties of the job
To participate in the organisation and delivery of an efficient, high quality service providing patient care in a treatment/simulator/clinic section of the radiotherapy department.
To be involved in all routine procedures related to the planning/treatment and care of patients, and the organisation of the department.
To rotate through all areas of the radiotherapy department including treatment, pre treatment and clinic areas.
To support the development of students by providing training and guidance as necessary.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a therapeutic radiographer
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of principles and practice of radiotherapy and oncology
- Appreciation of research
- Knowledge and application of the regulations related to obtaining informed consent
- Reflective and self-appraising
- Able to provide information and support about cancer, and communicate sensitive information to patients and relatives/carers
- Use good communication skills across all professional boundaries Ability to communicate well at an individual, team and departmental level. Demonstrate the following: tolerance, sensitivity & empathy

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working as part of a radiotherapy team using megavoltage, orthovoltage, superficial energy.
- Experience on modern simulators/CT and in dosimetry
- Use of IGRT/ IMRT/Adaptive RT
- Experience of on treatment verification systems
- ICT skills
- Experience with: multi-leaf collimators megavoltage and KV imaging including CBCT CT planning
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- Understanding of managing on treatment radiotherapy side effects
