Job overview
The Appointment is to commence 5th August 2026 for a period of 12 months.
The Cavendish Fellowship is specifically designed for a Senior Trainee [FRCS (Orth)] who has already resolved to specialise in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery.
This post does not attract an NTN and is aimed at Specialty Registrars who have neared completion of their training and want fellowship experience in arthroplasty surgery.
Main duties of the job
Candidates for this post will be expected to demonstrate a confirmed interest in some branch of lower limb arthroplasty surgery. The appointment will be at post CCT level.
The Fellow is expected to attend up to three all day operating lists per week, attend out-patient clinics and take a lead role with the ward management of in-patients.
The on call commitment is to cover the elective arthroplasty unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
It will be assumed that, at the end of the appointment, the Fellow will obtain a consultant or other comparable post with a special responsibility for arthroplasty surgery. The expected period of the Fellow’s appointment will be for twelve months.

- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Qualified Medical Practitioner FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Research
Essential criteria
- Evidence of peer reviewed publication relevant to lower limb arthroplasty
Clinical governance and audit
Essential criteria
- Evidence of completed audit/QI project
Clinical experience
Essential criteria
- At least 12 months lower limb arthroplasty experience
- Demonstrate competence in the management of lower limb arthroplasty patients
- Experience of working in the NHS
Teaching and training
Essential criteria
- Interest in training clinical and surgical skills
Desirable criteria
- Higher teaching qualification
Continuous Professional Development

- Evidence of continuing professional development
