Job overview
To deliver oral health education and promotion programmes, providing advice and resources to a broad spectrum of clients, including groups of the population and individuals and to develop materials for use in oral health education.
To facilitate supervised toothbrushing clubs in schools and nurseries and obtain relevant data under the direction of the oral health promotion manager.
Main duties of the job
To prepare and present oral health promotion programmes for a broad range of clients of various ages and academic levels where elements of interruption and unpredictability may be present.
To provide specialist knowledge and advice of oral and public health information, to healthcare, educational and social professions using different forms of teaching and training.
To maintain and develop partnership working within early years settings to improve oral health.
To communicate and liaise with early year providers, health promotion staff and others involved in organisation and delivery of oral health promotion programmes.
To provide training, resources and information to settings taking part in a supervised toothbrushing club.
To provide oral health messages and promote positive health behaviours to parents/carers.

The Oral Health Promotion Team provides an oral health improvement programme in Sheffield to improve oral health for our local communities and reduce inequalities particularly of children and young
people and vulnerable adults.
The oral health team work within a range of settings through partnerships between health, local authorities and the voluntary independent sector.
The Community and Special Care Dental Service is the main provider of special care dentistry in Sheffield. The service provides dental care in community settings for children and adults who have difficulty accessing dental treatment in general dental practice or who require special care dentistry on a referral basis.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Essential criteria
- Qualified Dental professional
- Oral Health Education Certificate or willing to work towards.
- Previous experience of oral health promotion work with individuals and/or groups
- Good communication skills at all levels and an understanding of the communication barriers related to the services specialist client groups
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working with or knowledge of staff working in health education and special care
- Experience of working within a nursery/school setting
- Level 4 teaching certificate or equivalent
