Integrated Midwife (Community)

We are looking for experienced midwives to join our Jessop Wing team and belong to one of our five traditional community teams that serve our diverse families across the city of Sheffield.

Being a community midwife in Sheffield offers opportunity for:

  • Delivering continuity of care through the antenatal and postnatal period
  • Participation in our Home-birth service (2 on calls per month)
  • Providing infant feeding support as outlined by UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Initiative
  • Providing Safeguarding and Mental Health support to families with oversight from our specialist teams
  • Supportive teamworking
  • Multi-agency working across the city
  • Flexible working with generous mileage allowance
  • Fresh air and green spaces.

You will be offered bespoke orientation and a generous supernumerary period with support to thrive within the role. We also consider flexible working options including compressed hours or a hybrid role with shifts in the inpatient/intrapartum areas

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care, working collaboratively with women to ensure excellent standards of care.

To gain the skills, knowledge and competence to act as a responsible, autonomous midwifery practitioner within a supportive team.      

To be aware of the local and national public health agenda, contributing positively to achieving targets that will reduce inequalities and improve health outcomes for women and their babies.

To provide midwifery advice and support women in making choices for their care and that of their babies.

Assess complex health and wellbeing needs, working with the multidisciplinary team to develop, monitor and review care plans to meet those needs.

To uphold effective communication and provide clear and concise handover to multidisciplinary team members.

 To act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide ranging physical and emotional needs.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

  • (Band 6) Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) qualification or working towards
  • (Band 5) Diploma/Degree qualification or evidence of relevant post basic ongoing education.

Experience
