Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our secretarial team within ENT. The role provides a link between the Trust, the patient and their GP for patients/carers and other healthcare professionals. You will provide a comprehensive, efficient and responsive secretarial and waiting list service to the medical staff and their teams.
The department forms part of the Head and Neck Group within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is made up of 4 Directorates.
Working Hours/Pattern: 16 hours over 2 days
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to provide comprehensive secretarial and waiting list support to three of our ENT Surgeons based within the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
You will need to have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team whilst maintaining a high standard of work. The ability to prioritise your workload and to know when to escalate issues is essential. You will need to be able to liaise with staff throughout the Trust at all levels including Consultants, Management, Nursing staff, GP’s, patients and patient relatives, dealing effectively and efficiently with their enquiries.
To be successful in your application you will need to have a good standard of education, experience of an office based role, excellent verbal and written communication skills and a clear understanding of patient confidentiality.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE standard of education including English and mathematics at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent)
- OCR 2 and/or RSA 3 Audio typing/word processing and/or secretarial qualification or equal demonstrable experience
Desirable criteria
- I.T. qualifications such as NVQs / EDCL
- Medical word processing qualification or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience working in an office environment
- Working knowledge of office practice and procedures
- Demonstrable track record achieving deadlines and targets
- Audio typing experience
- Experience using Microsoft Office and similar I.T. packages
- Supporting in management and scheduling of surgical waiting list
- Patient pathway / 18 week knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in an NHS office environment
- Previous experience of STH Trust data systems
- Working knowledge of the Lorenzo patient administration system (or similar)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, preferably related to ENT disorders
- Medical audio typing experience
