Job overview
An opportunity has arisen within Community & Special Care Dentistry to recruit a permanent Decontamination Support Worker to provide a high quality and professional service at Wheata Place Dental Clinic.
You will be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the dental decontamination areas and the collection and transfer of both dirty instruments and equipment from surgeries to dirty utility and distribution of clean instruments to surgeries once received from the off-site decontamination facility.
Main duties of the job
- Continuously monitor dirty and clean instruments and equipment availability to maintain service delivery, and to monitor stock levels of consumables.
- Restock dental surgeries as appropriate and put delivered stock away in an ordered manor to ensure efficient stock rotation.
- Prepare and maintain the environment, instruments, and equipment for clinical dental procedures.
- Undertake care and maintenance of instruments/ equipment providing minor maintenance to a level consistent with knowledge, reporting malfunctions and repairs as necessary to the appropriate person or agency.
- To monitor stock levels of consumables under the supervision of the dental nurse team leader. To restock dental surgeries as appropriate.
- Once sharps bin full, ensure they are securely fastened and taken to the appropriate storage facility.
- To ensure any discrepancies of tray contents are reported to Steris.
- To check the integrity of instrument packaging before it leaves the clinic and report damaged/wet/unsealed packaging and return to Steris.
- Unload the Steris clean instrument trolley, storing appropriately ensuring accurate rotation of instrument sets and supplementary items.
- Pre-clean/oil/dismantle instruments as per training in a dedicated decontamination area.
- Scan each kit, supplementary package before placing them into a scanned Steris dirty instrument trolley ready for pick up by Steris driver

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Grade C/4 or above including English & Maths or equivalent qualification/experience.
Desirable criteria
- Training in cross infection /decontamination processes
- Institute of Decontamination Sciences - Operational Qualification in Decontamination
