Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our team in providing a high-quality service to all our patients, staff and visitors who use the catering facilities at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
The main responsibilities of the post involve “hands-on” supervision and leadership of the Central Production Unit team.
Experience in supervising large groups of people within a busy Catering Department would be advantageous. This post is based at Northern General Hospital; however, a degree of flexibility would be expected as you may be required to work across campus.
Successful candidates must demonstrate initiative, work to high standards and show excellent communication skills. Further training is available for your development and career progression within the Department.
Main duties of the job
To allocate duties and provide daily supervision to CPU teams on a daily basis.
Ensure accurate use of commodities and report shortfalls in storage and production to the Production Manager.
Ensure distribution and collection of food trolleys and supplies to the ward and retail areas is carried out in a safe and hygienic place.
Checking patient meals/baskets/retail area trolleys before distribution.
Ensure wastage is kept to a minimum and accurate records are kept to ensure it is controlled. Report and take action regarding over / underproduction of goods.
To ensure goods inwards are checked for quality, quantity and temperature and placed in appropriate storage areas. Ensure all staff follow a stock rotation system and issue goods in accordance with Departmental procedures.
Ensure that all meals and special diets produced comply with departmental quality standards and are checked prior to issue to wards and dining rooms.

Essential criteria
- GCSE English and Maths Grade 9 - 4 or equivalent qualifications/ experience
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent experience
- City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 or equivalent e.g. Level 2 Food Production or equivalent experience
- Level 2 Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Level 3 Health & Safety Certificate or equivalent experience
- Institute of Leadership & Management Certificate (formerly NEBSS) or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of Nutrition and Therapeutic diets including texture modified (IDDSI), cultural menus etc
- Food Standards Agency allergen training or equivalent experience
- Level 3 Food Hygiene or equivalent experience
Experience

- Extensive experience working in a large catering organisation
- Stores working and Stock Control experience
- Staff management skills
