Job overview
The appointment is for a fixed term period of 12 months. Cardiology Specialist Training in Coronary Intervention is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are appropriate to a final-year or post-CCT Cardiology Specialist Trainee wishing to develop an interest in TAVI.
Applicants should be Post CCT or ST7 /equivalent.
Main duties of the job
Please refer to the supporting job description and person specification which will outline the duties of the role including an indicative job plan.
The post holder will gain comprehensive experience in all aspects of TAVI. They will also be responsible for maintaining the UK Hydra TAVI registry.
The successful candidate will undertake 1 out-patient TAVI clinic per week and be involved in ward rounds seeing TAVI referrals and reviewing patients post procedure. They will attend the TAVI MDT and be involved in TAVI CT analysis. There will be an opportunity for the fellow to maintain their PCI competencies.

Clinical experience
Essential criteria
- Broad training in general Cardiology
- Final year or post CCT interventional trainee
- Post CCT or ST 7
Desirable criteria
- Experience in TAVI
- Experience in research and publications in cardiology especially intervention and structural
- Resource management and committee work
Clinical governance and audit
Essential criteria
- Committed to and understands the principles of clinical governance
- Understands the principles outlined in the GMC document Good Medical Practice
- Understands the requirements of Medical Appraisal and Revalidation
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
- MB ChB or Equivalent
- MRCP or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
- MD or PhD
Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
- Basic understanding of research methods and statistics.
Desirable criteria
- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
- MD/PhD
Teaching and training
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

- Good written communication skills
