A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join our multi-disciplinary team of Technical Staff working within Hearing Services; we are a busy Outpatient Department providing a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation service to the deaf and hard of hearing.

The successful candidate will be working with, and providing support to our patients, relatives and carers in the form of rehabilitation advice and hearing aid maintenance. You will need to be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) at grade C or above in English and Math’s, have previous experience of working with the general public.

JOB PURPOSE

To assist the audiologists in the performance of their duties. To perform a wide range of routine tasks including hearing aid repairs and fine-tuning of digital hearing aids, patient preparation, adjustments of ear moulds, routine equipment maintenance, stock control and administrative duties. To provide first line counselling to patients and carers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 GCSEs, to include English Language & Mathematics (C grade or above) or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • IT qualifications/experience (preferably Microsoft Office)

  • NVQ level 2

Experience

  • Experience of working with General Public or relevant experience within a clinical directorate in the NHS (or related healthcare environment)
  • Confidence in communicating directly with patients, carers & relatives over the telephone and dealing with colleagues of all disciplines and levels.
  • Experience of working in a methodical manner and autonomously.

  • Has experience with the deaf and hard of hearing in a professional or social environment.
  • Basic knowledge of hearing aids.
  • Has experience of working within an NHS setting.
  • Evidence of good organisation and communication skills.

Further Training

  • Undertaken deaf awareness training.
  • Knowledge of Lorenzo, and other Trust IT systems and/or a willingness to undertake further training.
