Job overview
The Department of Acute Medicine is looking to appoint two Locum Appointed Service (LAS) doctors working at the level of equivalent of ST3+ registrar. Full MRCP and up-to date ALS certification is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The posts are not recognised “training posts” and do not award a National Training Number. Duties are equivalent to ST3+ level.
Post 1: 7th August 2024 – 3rd December 2024
Post 2: 4th September 2024 – 1st April 2025
Main duties of the job
The Acute Medicine Department works within the Acute and Emergency Medicine Directorate, along side the Emergency Medicine and Pharmacy Departments.
The Acute Medicine Department covers the Acute Medicine Unit (a 56-bedded unit) and the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) located nearby AMU and the Emergency Department, involving over 25,000 admissions per year. The AMU team assess and manage an evolving acute take (becoming more undifferentiated), typically providing care to patients within the first 48-hours of their attendance, aiming to turnaround and discharge patients safely or triage and admit to an appropriate inpatient team for further treatment.

Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise by the date of application
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent by intended start date.
