The Digital directorate sits within the portfolio of the Executive Director of Finance at Sheffield Health and Social Care. In additional to the providing the day to day operations and services which include informatics, clinical information systems, and ICT to the whole Trust, it also oversees the Trust’s Digital Transformation Strategy. This builds on the Trust’s standing as a visionary in digital technology but brings with it the challenge of constrained investment which commands leadership, exceptional management of resources and innovation.

Successful candidates will have excellent Microsoft TSQL Skills, and a proven track record of writing and executing Stored Procedures to extract, manipulate and amend data. In addition to being highly organised and adaptable, they should be able to interpret and explain technical requirements to colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and be proficient in using tools such as Microsoft Office products to analyse and present performance information.

As a member of the Informatics and Systems team, the post-holder will be responsible for:

  • Gathering requirements and developing processes for the extraction, compilation and submission of a variety of data set and statutory returns including Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS).
  • Working with clinical staff and technical colleagues to develop and support the Trust’s additional reporting needs, both internal and external.
  • Providing guidance and support to Information Analysts within the organisation to ensure information capture, data analysis and technical outputs are accurate and robust to support decision making.
  • Contributing towards the trust Performance and Quality Framework, working with all stakeholders to ensure the trust has robust data definition, data quality and reporting tools.

  • Work with Digital and clinical staff to ensure that trust systems reflect national requirements, with particular emphasis on current and future versions of the Mental Health Services Dataset (MHSDS).
  • Planning and preparation for future reporting requirements including the identification of any system or process changes necessary to meet those requirements.
  • Work with clinical directorates in relation to the collection of information to required standards and timescales, including the introduction of new processes to meet changing requirements.
  • Developing procedures for the extraction, validation and submission of datasets including the Mental Health Services Dataset (MHSDS) within agreed timescales.
  • Identify and rectify data quality issues prior to the submission of national datasets such as the Mental Health Services Dataset (MHSDS).
  • Analysis and internal reporting of NHS Digital data derived from datasets submitted by the Trust.
  • Represent the Trust at relevant user groups relating to national datasets, particularly the MHSDS, and act as a contact point for external bodies (NHS Digital, Department of Health & Social Care, NHS England etc.) in relation to queries on those datasets.
  • Oversee the production and distribution of regular internal reports to agreed deadlines, including the extraction and analysis of data for those reports.
  • Provision of a data analysis service within the trust to answer ad-hoc requests for information, ensuring a log is kept of reports submitted and ad-hoc queries answered.
  • Contribute to the development of the data warehouse and internal performance dashboards in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of Trust patient information systems by attendance at technical team meetings and liaison with IT colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of the ongoing trust data quality improvement programme.
  • Deputise and provide cover for colleagues as appropriate.

The duties will involve contact with information providers and users at all levels across the Trust and with various external bodies.

There will be a close working relationship with:

  • Colleagues within the Digital directorate
  • Departments providing clinical services.
  • Recipients of trust information – e.g. NHS Digital, DHSC, South Yorkshire ICB, Sheffield City Council
  • Contracts and Tender Management Team.

Service Development

  • Working within the Digital directorate to ensure a high standard of service is provided to the trust.
  • Contributing to the over-arching Digital strategy and portfolio by providing advice and suggestions on projects, policies and work processes.
  • Facilitating efficient working relationships with other directorates in order to improve processes and working practices with informatics elements.
  • Maintaining existing knowledge and skill-sets and undertaking training to further develop capacity as required to carry out the responsibilities of the role.

  • GCSE or equivalent in maths and English language.

Experience
