Are you looking for a health care role where you can make a difference to the lives of children and young people? Join our Theatres team as a Senior Support Worker!

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Senior Support Worker to join our Theatre Department. You will work with the Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to provide excellent care to patients in the theatre. Your responsibilities will include assisting with patient assessments, care planning, and supporting the team by helping train junior colleagues.

You will ensure patient safety, and keep the theatre environment clean and safe. Additionally, you’ll manage administrative tasks, support patients and families during difficult times, and maintain equipment and supplies.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Theatre Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Help with patient assessments and contribute to care planning.
  • Help deliver care to children in the theatre and support anaesthetised patients.
  • Maintain patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Support and train junior theatre colleagues
  • Manage administrative tasks, including patient records and communication with the theatre supply team.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment in the theatre and clinical areas, maintaining infection control standards.
  • Order and maintain clinical supplies, working with the theatre supply team.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families in difficult situations.
  • Maintain equipment, stock, and a safe clinical environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Mathematics and English Language (grade A-C) Level 2 functional skills equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 Vocational Health Diploma
  • SCH Band 2 or 3 in house competency package
  • Care certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Some knowledge and skills in a care environment
Desirable criteria
  • Worked in healthcare/social care environment.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of health and safety in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of principles of infection control.
  • Basic IT skills, which include competency at using word and email.
  • Ability to show initiative and take on own responsibility and accountability
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage own time.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowdledge of safeguarding children and young adults
  • Previously worked in a health/social care multidisciplinary team setting and contributed in team meetings.
  • Compliance of policies and procedures in a regulated health care provider.
  • Knowledge of basic life support
