Job overview

The post holder will provide of expert advice, guidance, support, coaching, and training, including the monitoring and reporting on all aspects of health and safety within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert, advice and support on health & safety issues.
  • Attend, Trust premises including off site properties to advise and provide support on the day to day health and safety.
  • Assist in the planning, implementing and evaluating a robust health and safety programme.
  • Assist, support and advise managers within the Trust to fulfil their responsibilities around proactive risk assessments. 
  • Support the development and operational undertaking of a rolling programme of health and safety audit and inspection programmes. 
  • Participate in working groups, committees and project teams where there is a requirement for health and safety.
  • Review any reported incidents relating to health and safety , instigate and advise on follow-up investigations as required.
  • Work Collaboratively with other departments on health and safety issues.
  • Assist and support in ensuring the required policies and 
    procedures are in place and capable of providing robust evidence and continuing improvement.
  • Provide information and data for the Health and Safety Committees.
  • Assist and support in the development and implementation and delivery health and safety training programme for Colleagues of all levels within the Trust.
  • Assist and support the health and safety Manager in their role as the Medical Devices Safety Officer (MDSO).

  • Nebosh General Certificate or equivalent Degree or equivalent level of experience or education Maths and English GCSE or equivalent

  • Recent experience working in a professional health and safety role, providing advice and support at all levels across the organisation, including conducting audits and analysing data and presenting statistical data. Recent experience in carrying out the administration of an organisations health and safety management system. Recent experience of delivering training to all levels of Colleagues including manager

  • Knowledge of health and safety risk management frameworks, legislation and policies Ability to draft, review and interpret reports, procedures and policies. Knowledge of RIDDOR, reporting procedures and protocols. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of confidentiality, Data Protection and Freedom of Information knowledge of the role of regulators eg Localised Inspectorate (EHO and Fire Safety Inspectors) and the Health and Safety Executive Knowledge of Data risk management system (Datix) Demonstrates knowledge of the role of regulators eg NHS Improvement, Care Quality Commission, CCG , Good written and oral communication skills in addition to excellent presentation skills. Ability to produce and deliver effective presentations and teaching packages. Ability to define, retrieve and correlate data. Excellent negotiation skills with an ability to work constructively with professional and managerial Colleagues Ability to assimilate, analyse and present complex/ sensitive or contentious data to different audiences IT literate (intermediate level) including office, excel, word and PowerPoint.
