Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research and Innovation Team. You will be a compassionate, accountable individual who treats all colleagues, patients and service users with respect and seeks to deliver excellence in their role. 
 
A key member of the Research Delivery Team, you will support the delivery of a wide range of research studies undertaken at Sheffield Children’s. This post will primarily focus on the delivery of research trials and studies within the Clinical Research Facility but will also support studies being undertaken across the Trust. With the complexity of clinical trials increasing and more specialties becoming research active this is an opportunity to work with different teams within and external to the trust and offer children and young people the opportunity to take part in exciting clinical research.

We are specifically seeking a candidate who has a valid NMC registration

Main duties of the job

We will provide excellent opportunities for professional development. You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical trials.

This will involve the recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or Diploma as Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Have training in or be willing to undertake training in Good Clinical Practice and other relevant courses as required for the conduct of research in the NHS
  • Good understanding and awareness of the National Institute of Health Research and how research in the UK is supported
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Skills: Venepuncture and Cannulation
  • Teaching, Mentoring and Assessors qualification
  • Higher level of qualification (MSc / PhD) in a relevant clinical / scientific discipline
  • Training in taking Informed Consent in clinical research

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant work experience - post registration experience for registered staff
  • Significant knowledge/experience of delivering clinical research studies in the clinical setting and/or considerable exposure to research conducted in the NHS
  • Recent experience of working with patients/children and planning and delivering their care
  • Experience of liasing with and maintaining good working relationships with other health professionals across all clinical disciplines at all levels.
Desirable criteria
  • Eperince of co-ordinating and delivering multi centred clinical studies and complex interventional trials
  • Experience of preparing clinical research projects for monitoring / audit / regulatory inspection
  • Clinical skills: experience of venepuncture and cannulation, ECG, lung function tests, intravenous drug administration, sample handling and processing

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of EU Directive for Clinical Trials, Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice
  • Ability to follow complex protocols and SOP's
  • Knowledge of pharmacovigilance and safety reporting
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical skills: Venepuncture and Cannulation, ECG, lung function tests, intravenous drug administration, sample handling and processing
  • Qualified and able to give intravenous injections and draw blood from lines
