Specialist Physiotherapist (Band 6) - Cancer prehabilitation (37.5 hpw) - 12 months fixed term post**

Funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and operating within the regional Active Together Service, this unique position offers an exceptional opportunity for a qualified Physiotherapist to significantly impact the lives of individuals in Doncaster and Bassetlaw undergoing crucial cancer treatments and surgeries.

Prehabilitation is a multimodal approach supporting people to prepare for cancer treatments enabling enhanced recovery with fewer complications with better long term health outcomes. This exciting field promotes healthy behaviours through the prescription of exercise, nutrition and psychological interventions.

The successful candidate will be supported by the Clinical Lead AHP for Prehabilitation within the organization and will benefit from regular clinical supervision.. There will also be an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills specific to cancer Prehabilitation through regional networking, internal training, and external courses.

Additional peer support will be available through the regional cancer Prehabilitation network, which holds regular meetings to discuss various topics.

This post will be part of the Active Together service , linking  with colleagues from Rotherham, Sheffield and Barnsley to improve standards of care across the region. This is a group recognised for innovation and progressive thinking.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a specialist clinician in cancer rehabilitation/prehabilitation, serving the Doncaster and Bassetlaw regions.
  • To provide a high standard of clinical assessments for patients before and after cancer treatments.
  • To facilitate the delivery of group exercise and educational sessions
  • Provision of specialised one-on-one therapy sessions to enhance patient physical function, both in-person and virtually.
  • Support, mentor and develop more junior staff within the team
  • Effectively manage own caseload and that of other team members
  • Assist the clinical lead AHP in developing the cancer prehabilitation and rehabilitation service.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues in healthcare, social services, local authorities, and other agencies is essential to address patient needs effectively.

knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • A range of experience working as a registered Physiotherapist in different specialties
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams
  • Experience of participating in service development and quality improvement projects
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate experience working within cancer pathways or within pulmonary / cardiac rehabilitation services
  • Experience in the delivery of group exercise interventions

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree/Masters in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualification/relevant experience.
  • HCPC registration
  • Portfolio evidence of clinically relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate training in cancer prehab / pulmonary rehab /cardiac rehab.
  • Basic first line management
