Job overview

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking for enthusiastic, quality focused and patient centred Operating Department Practitioners to join our team at Mexborough Theatres.   

You will be expected to work alongside and communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to assessing, planning and implementing and evaluating care.  You will work as a member of our theatre teams on circulating scrub and/or anaesthetic duties and opportunities will be provided to gain experience and further training in both these areas as your registration supports.  You will be committed to providing a high standard of patient care, demonstrating motivation, enthusiasm and consideration of financial importance. 

Main duties of the job

As a Theatre Practitioner you will work alongside the Anaesthetist or Surgeon, to provide first class, patient centred anaesthetic or surgical care.  You will at all times work in accordance with the Codes of Professional Conduct and ensure at all times your practices reach the required professional standard.

Essential criteria
  • Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working as required and good attendance
  • Precise and methodical in working practice and able to work under own initiative
Desirable criteria
  • Provide evidence of supervision of students
  • Provide evidence of understanding of clinical governance/risk assessment

Interpersonal Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communications skills with multi-disciplinary team/client/relatives
  • Demonstrate caring manner with an understanding of Equality and Diversity in the workplace
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to progress
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in team building and leadership

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • ODP with HCPC or Nurse registered with NMC
  • Computer literate
  • Student pending registration
  • Up to date knowledge of professional issues
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of attendance at relevant mandatory study days
  • Evidence of specialised qualifications, competencies in relation to theatre practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience in acute hospital environment
  • Previous experience during training in theatres
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate evidence of research based practice
  • Demonstrate evidence of departmental management under supervision
