The Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people in and around their educational settings. We are looking for staff who are committed to working longer term in Doncaster to join our dedicated MHST service. Successful candidates will be employed by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust. Doncaster MHST started in January 2020 and were also successful in wave 8.  These posts sit within wave 12 which will commence in January 2025.

Candidates will be in training in their first year and will be required to work full time 9 - 5pm. During the training year staff will spend three days a week within the MHST service and two days per week at the University of Sheffield.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Successful candidates will be offered a full-time education programme specifically for the role in partnership with the University of Sheffield. This post will be funded at NHS Band 4 scale with guaranteed employment on completion of training and having attained EMHP qualification, with a starting salary projected to be based on the NHS Band 5 scale.

The training programme for this post starts in February 2025, is 12 months in duration and will consist of academic and supervised practice learning within educational settings across Doncaster.

Delivery of the programme will be provided through a combination of taught days within the university, independent self-guided study days and experience gained in educational settings and mental health services.

The candidate will be delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people, with mild to moderate mental health problems, in an education setting.

  • Helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist service.
  • Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Working with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
  • To evidence development of those skills with associated knowledge acquisition to record and evidence progression towards an academic award and demonstrable practical ability.

  • Undergraduate degree, upper second class or above, in Psychology or related subject OR  have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health.
