Job overview

This is a team lead role providing leadership and operational management for the Renal Dietetic Service at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. 

Main duties of the job

To provide operational management and leadership to your team.

To manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.

To act as a point of contact for other agencies for issues relating to dietetic service provision.

To work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.

To ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.

To work with other members of the team in the development of the service.

To ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.

To represent the dietetic and nutrition team and contribute to the development of the wider dietetic and nutrition service throughout the Trust.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience (minimum 3 years) working as a Qualified Dietitian.
  • Evidence of working with patients who require highly complex management within relevant specialist area.
  • Understanding of professional ethics
  • Therapeutic experience in a wide range of areas.
  • Evidence of working with patients in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Experience of delivering formal presentations to multi-professional groups.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and leading aspects of MDT service development
  • Evidence of leading on the development of guidelines/protocols in relevant clinical areas
  • Evidence of service redesign and service improvement
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries.
  • Understanding and involvement with complaints and datix management system
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Experience in managing staff including performance management, PDA and managing change.

Eligibility/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Dietetics or Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics
  • HCPC UK Registered Dietitian
  • Membership of relevant special interest groups
  • Clinical supervisory course for working with students
  • Additional training in relevant specialist areas
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive additional training in specialist area to master level or equivalent
  • Management /leadership training
  • Membership of the British Dietetic Association

  • Good communication and listening skills with an understanding of the needs of people
  • Ability to work to deadlines and use own initiative
  • Ability to be an effective member of a team but also work independently as required
  • Able to cope with challenging and difficult situations
  • Ability to recognise and acknowledge own limitations, seeking and acting on assistance / support as appropriate
  • Good standard of record keeping and computer literate
  • Good presentation and teaching skills

  • Behaviour change motivational interviewing skills

Organisational Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage day to day running of services, prioritise workload and work with speed and accuracy
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services
  • To be able to make decision and problem solve when dealing with a variety of situations (sometimes difficult or stressful circumstances)
