Specialist Doctor In Emergency Medicine

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialist Grade

Job overview

This vacancy is for the newly instated Specialist Doctor Grade. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of 6 years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades or equivalent level.

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine has produced statement for reinstatement of the Associate Specialist grade or equivalent in September 2018. Following negotiations with the NHS Employers and the BMA the Specialist grade was introduced in April 2021 in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

In recognition of the fundamental role that SAS doctors hold in the delivery of high quality, safe medical care for patients, a charter for staff, associate specialist and specialty doctors was published in England. Similar charters jointly produced by the BMA and the NHS in the devolved nations have also been accepted.

The successful candidate will contribute to emergency care across the Emergency Care Group, and will work as a part of the Emergency Department team with a full shift rota.
